Communications & Engagement Lead

Predator Free Dunedin is seeking an enthusiastic communicator and engagement specialist to create, manage and deliver positive and engaging stories to raise the profile of our work and effectively engage our communities.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will work closely with key internal and external stakeholders to implement our Communications and Engagement Strategy. From sharing social media stories to running events for members, or working with media. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the vision for a Predator Free Dunedin.

This is a fixed term role for 20 hours per week until June 2025.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be a confident communicator who enjoys working with a diverse range of people and communities.

  • Be a talented and adaptable writer with strong attention to detail. You are comfortable creating content for a diverse range of platforms and audiences.

  • Have experience using social media and other online channels to communicate consistently and effectively. 

  • Be a self-starter who can work on their own to manage and set their own priorities.

  • Have experience using Mailchimp, Squarespace, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Have a background in conservation and/or science communication, or be able to quickly understand and communicate complex issues in and engaging and accessible way

About Predator Free Dunedin:

Predator Free Dunedin is a conservation collective working collaboratively to protect native biodiversity and strengthen communities. Together, our members share a long-term vision to get rid of possums, rats, and stoats from Dunedin’s urban and rural landscapes by 2050. We are building on existing projects and linking the areas between with large-scale predator control initiatives.

Our vision is to create a Predator Free Dunedin by 2050 where wildlife and communities thrive.

We work with three delivery partners who lead on-the-ground efforts across Dunedin. Together with volunteers and residents, they are carrying out predator control on the Otago Peninsula, in city suburbs, from Waitati to Aramoana, and across important conservation areas like Silverstream, Flagstaff and Silver Peaks.

Responsibilities:

  • Communications. Lead the implementation of Predator Free Dunedin’s Communications and Engagement strategy — working proactively to identify and capture communication opportunities to raise the profile of Predator Free Dunedin and its community.

  • Engagement. Develop and implement a stakeholder engagement strategy for internal stakeholders and lead its implementation — keeping our community updated and engaged through targeted channels and events.
