Introducing City Sanctuary!

New name, new website and social media channels support the aim for the next 12 months - to get 1 in 10 households protecting native wildlife through backyard predator control in three suburbs: Maori Hill, North Dunedin and Caversham. Targeted predators are rats, possums and stoats.

The team is also supporting new and existing community groups in ten priority suburbs by providing trapping and monitoring equipment, as well as working with community groups to adopt ten priority reserves. They will be joining The Valley Project in July to co-host a trapping workshop where locals can build their own rat trap box and learn how to control possums in their backyards.

As awareness of Predator Free Dunedin and City Sanctuary grows, the team is carefully staging their community engagement to harness interest and volunteer enthusiasm as best it can, by supporting existing community groups and empowering new volunteer champions to establish new groups.

Like Predator Free Dunedin, the team knows that our city is ready to work together towards creating a flourishing city sanctuary.
